I am Feminism

Feminism. It has been a big topic in today’s society. More specifically, after the current civil-unrest that has taken over our country because of recent dehumanizing statements and actions from people in power, the term “feminism” has taken on a new meaning.

Through the years, the idea has become lost behind the word. The idea that women should not make less than men, let alone be subject to staying at home while the man is the breadwinner. But, the thing is that while that may still be true for some households, it is 2017, and women deserve to be treated with the same respect as their male counterparts, and that is the principal for which feminism stands. Feminism does not mean that men are evil, and those who believe that they are would not be feminists but rather be people who believe in misandry. However, that is just one of the many misconceptions about feminism which is not about slandering people for wanting to live their life a certain way. Being a feminist isn’t about being hateful, it’s about a passionate commitment to others, feminism isn’t…

Feminism isn't the notion that women are better than men but rather that we are each other's equals.

Feminism isn't the idea that men are gross pigs but rather that they are human beings as well and we all deserve to live a happy life.

Feminism isn't the idea that chivalry is dead, but that a gentlemen will always respect a woman for being a strong person.

Feminism isn't against the idea of gender roles entirely, but is a cause that protects a woman's right to choose how to live her life.

Feminism isn't the idea that men and women deserve equal pay simply because it is the right thing to do, but rather on the principle that equal work deserves equal pay.

Feminism isn't meant to be taken as a group of misled ignorant women, but rather a group of people (male or female) who choose to stand up for the rights of women so they can choose their own path of life.

The idea of feminism isn't to belittle any person for what they believe in or how THEY believe a woman should live her life. Feminism is a movement to get full equal rights for one of the oppressed groups in America, women, so that we have the right to choose our own path. Some will be doctors, lawyers, or even CEO's others may choose to be stay at home moms, humanitarians, or even evangelicals. All that matters is that women are treated as equals and given the same opportunities as the rest.

Yes I am glad to call myself a feminist, I am willing to fight for something I believe in. Would you consider yourself to be a feminist? How do you or could you go about showing that? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
